A Meaningful Souvenir — The Mom Turtle Collection

While traveling through Vietnam, you may come across many vibrant and beautifully embroidered bags.
However, for women who wish to incorporate such pieces into their everyday lives, aesthetics alone may not be enough.

Many seek something more—
a piece with a story they can truly connect with.

The Mom Turtle Collection by Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts was created to meet that desire.

Why the Sea Turtle?

Sea turtles travel thousands of kilometers to return to the very place where they were born, continuing the cycle of life.
They do not seek attention, nor do they assert their strength.
Yet within their quiet journey lies a deep and unwavering resilience.

For us—having previously drawn inspiration from nature through motifs such as elk and hummingbirds—the sea turtle holds a special meaning.

A presence that nurtures life as a mother.
A quiet strength that exists without the need for words.

This philosophy resonates deeply with our signature technique—bead embroidery, built one stitch at a time—and gave birth to this collection.

Depth and Expression Through Bead Embroidery

Signature Bead Embroidery

The Mom Turtle Collection is crafted using our signature technique: Signature Bead Embroidery.

  • Light and Subtle Brilliance: Unlike thread-only embroidery, beads interact with light, gently shifting their expression depending on the angle.
The resulting shimmer is never excessive, offering a refined elegance suited for everyday wear.

  • A Delicate Balance: The design of the turtle—its shell and silhouette—avoids both excessive realism and childishness.
Instead, it sits at the perfect intersection of charm and meaning, creating a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic.

A Souvenir Meant to Stay with You

Even the most meaningful design loses its value if it cannot be used in daily life.
What the Mom Turtle Collection values most is its ability to blend seamlessly into everyday styling.

It does not overpower a simple outfit.
Yet in quiet moments, the embroidery catches your eye—gently grounding your thoughts.

Discovered during a journey, and continued as a staple in your wardrobe long after returning home.
This is what we believe to be the ideal souvenir.

A Story That Connects to the Future

The Mom Turtle Collection is also deeply connected to environmental conservation efforts on Con Dao Island in Vietnam.

Why do we protect sea turtles?
Why did we choose to express their presence through embroidery?

We invite you to explore the story and initiatives behind this collection.

Crafting for the Future — Inspired by Con Dao

Con Dao Island is known as one of Vietnam’s most pristine natural environments.
With its crystal-clear waters, rich biodiversity, and a history marked by political imprisonment, it is a place where beauty and sorrow coexist.

In November 2025, Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts was invited to attend the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Green List certification ceremony and had the opportunity to observe conservation efforts within the national park firsthand.

Experiencing the quiet yet powerful initiatives taking place on this island became a meaningful moment for us to reflect on what it truly means to create for the future.

Con Dao — Where Life Returns to the Sea

At Con Dao National Park, a meticulous sea turtle conservation program operates 24 hours a day to ensure the safe hatching of eggs laid by mother turtles.

Mother turtles carefully select fine sandy areas near vegetation, lay their eggs, cover the nest, erase their traces, and quietly return to the sea.
Within six hours of laying—when embryonic development is temporarily paused—park staff collect the eggs, allowing them to be safely relocated.

The eggs are then transferred to protected facilities, where they are carefully nurtured until hatching.

Through these efforts, millions of baby turtles have safely returned to the ocean over the past 30 years.

Sea Turtle Nesting Conservation at Con Dao National Park

At Con Dao National Park, a carefully managed conservation program operates 24 hours a day to ensure the safe hatching of eggs laid by mother turtles.

Mother turtles select fine sandy areas near vegetation, lay their eggs, cover the nest, erase their traces, and quietly return to the sea.
Afterward, park staff locate the nest and collect the eggs within six hours of laying. During this period, embryonic development is temporarily paused, allowing the eggs to be safely relocated.

The collected eggs are then transferred to protected facilities under the park’s management, where they are carefully maintained in optimal conditions until hatching.

Through these efforts, millions of baby turtles have safely made their journey back to the ocean over the past 30 years.

Invitation to the Green List Ceremony

In 2025, Con Dao National Park was officially recognized under the IUCN Green List, an international standard for protected areas that meet strict criteria in ecosystem conservation, management, and community collaboration.

This recognition reflects the global value of Con Dao’s natural environment.

Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts, a brand rooted in respect for handcraft, nature, and the future, was honored to be invited to this ceremony.

Witnessing conservation efforts firsthand reaffirmed our commitment as a brand.

Conservation Programs Experienced On-Site

Alongside the ceremony, several programs were conducted to deepen understanding of conservation practices.

We participated in a tree-planting initiative as part of forest regeneration efforts, where our founder, Xuan Thi, personally planted a tree—contributing to the island’s future ecosystem.

Con Dao is also one of Vietnam’s largest sea turtle nesting grounds.
After traveling thousands of kilometers, mother turtles return—often after 30 years—to the very beach where they were born to lay their eggs.

Only one in a thousand hatchlings survives to adulthood.
Yet here, life continues its quiet cycle.

This enduring rhythm of life is why Con Dao is known as “an island where life returns to the sea.”

Nature and History Intertwined

We also visited a 240-year-old natural heritage tree known as the “Sao Tree,” symbolizing the long-standing preservation of the island’s ecosystem.

Later, we visited the historical site of Ma Thien Lanh Bridge, where we offered flowers and a moment of silence.
During the 1930s, under French colonial rule, prisoners were subjected to forced labor, and 356 lives were lost at this site.

It was a quiet moment of reflection on the painful history that exists alongside the island’s natural beauty.

We concluded our visit with an ecosystem exhibition hosted by the national park, gaining a deeper, structured understanding of the island’s flora, fauna, and conservation efforts.

Taking Action for the Future

What connects all of these initiatives is a shared commitment:

“To take action today to ensure this island remains for the future.”

Conservation is not the responsibility of a select few.
It is shaped by the everyday choices and actions of each individual.

This is something we deeply felt during our time on Con Dao.

Con Dao Series — Handcrafted from Nature

The Con Dao Series is a collection inspired by the cycle of life, the grace of mother turtles, and the strength of nature experienced on the island.

Just as turtles return to the beach where they were born, we sought to capture the quiet power of nature in items used in everyday life.

Each piece reflects the rhythm of nature through the careful work of artisans—woven and embroidered with intention.

Supporting Sea Turtle Conservation

A portion of the proceeds from the Con Dao Series is donated to Con Dao National Park to support sea turtle conservation efforts.

Your choice of a single item can become a small but meaningful contribution to protecting the ocean’s future.

Available at Con Dao National Park

As part of this initiative, selected items from the Con Dao Series are now permanently displayed at the Con Dao National Park exhibition space.

Visitors to the island can experience the products firsthand and purchase them on-site.

This marks an important step for the brand—bringing to life the cycle between nature conservation and handcraft.

Closing

Where handcraft meets Care.

A place where craftsmanship meets compassion
and where that connection gently continues into the future.

Our experience in Con Dao taught us that true beauty lies in caring for what comes next.

Hummingbird Collection — Capturing Motion in Every Stitch

The bead embroidery series by Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts.
At its origin—and still a symbol of the brand today—is the Hummingbird.

Why do we continue to create this motif?

At its heart lies a memory—
a fleeting moment our designer, Xuan Thi, felt compelled to preserve.

Where It Began — A Backyard in California

One day in Santa Rosa, California, a hummingbird appeared before Xuan Thi.

With wings beating up to 80 times per second, the tiny bird hovered effortlessly in midair—free, precise, and alive with energy.

It was not only the beauty of its wings that captivated her,
but the constant motion—and the remarkable strength contained within such a small body.

She felt a strong desire to capture this moment of energy through Vietnam’s traditional bead embroidery.

That was the beginning of this journey.

A Challenge Without a Model — Embroidering Motion

The Hummingbird was the very first motif in our bead embroidery series.

With no precedent to follow, the process was one of continuous experimentation.

At what angle should the wings open to convey the wind of flight?
Where should each bead be placed to reflect light and create the illusion of movement?

Even the smallest deviation could make the bird appear static—or heavy.

Together with our artisans, Xuan Thi refined countless samples,
pursuing a true sense of movement and vitality.

A Unique Flight in Every Piece

In the Hummingbird Collection, we intentionally preserve subtle differences in each piece.

Just as no two flights in nature are ever the same,
the artisans who create our bags are not machines.

We do not aim for uniform perfection.
Instead, we carefully define the balance between precision and artistic freedom.

  • What we preserve:  The direction of the gaze, the angle of the beak, the flow of movement—
the essential elements that bring the bird to life.

  • What we entrust: The layering of bead colors, the placement of light, the nuance of each stitch.

This balance is made possible through years of trust with our embroidery artisans—
a signature of Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts.

Finding “Your One Bird”

In our stores, we often see customers pausing—
taking their time to choose.

This is not due to inconsistency,
but because each bird carries its own unique expression.

A subtle difference in the placement of beads may create a bird that feels bold,
while another appears graceful.

When that difference resonates with you,
the bag becomes something truly one of a kind.

In our stores, you can also choose your preferred embroidery motif and pair it with different bag styles.

Which shape brings out the beauty of that bird the most?
Enjoy the process of finding the one that speaks to you.

A Souvenir That Stays With You — The Elk Collection

Walking through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, you’ll encounter countless vibrant and eye-catching embroidered bags.
They are charming and uplifting, perfectly capturing the spirit of travel.

But have you ever wondered—
“Will I still use this in my everyday life once I return home?”

At Xuan Thi Handmade Crafts, what we value most is design that does not end as a memory of travel, but continues to live naturally in your daily life.

Among our collections, the Elk Series has been especially loved by mature customers.
Here, we share the story behind this motif.

The Origin of the Elk — A Quiet Moment in Yellowstone

The inspiration for the Elk motif came from a moment experienced by our designer, Xuan Thi, at Yellowstone National Park.

Within this vast landscape—where wildlife and geothermal wonders are preserved—she encountered a single elk quietly grazing by a stream.

Despite being a popular destination, there was no sense of performance or artificial display.
Only nature, existing as it is.

As someone who deeply loves animals, Xuan Thi recalls feeling an indescribable connection when she looked into the elk’s calm eyes.

“I want to express this respect for nature and my feelings for animals through Vietnamese traditional craftsmanship.”

From this pure impulse, the Elk embroidery motif was born.

Why Animals Remain at the Heart of Our Designs

At the core of Xuan Thi’s work lies a lifelong connection with animals.

Growing up, she shared her everyday life with cats, cows, and other animals—not as objects of observation, but as companions.

Interestingly, when she goes outside, not only pets but even wild animals seem to approach her naturally.
Perhaps it is because she interacts with them without force, maintaining a transparent and respectful distance.

This is why the animals in her designs are not simply “cute illustrations.”
They carry a natural vitality—as if each stitch breathes life into them.

The Beauty of Subtlety — Designed for Everyday Elegance

The Elk Series is loved across generations because of its refined balance.

  • Embroidery That Blends In: Rather than standing out, the embroidery is thoughtfully placed to complement the wearer’s style, with intentional use of negative space.

  • Natural Yet Sophisticated Form: The elk is not overly stylized, but remains true to its presence in nature.
Even with bead embroidery, the design feels light and effortless.

  • Calm, Timeless Colors: By avoiding excessive brightness and focusing on depth, the colors adapt easily to any season or outfit.

“Charming, yet never childish.”
This is the balance we strive for—designs that adults can carry with ease and confidence.

Designed for Travel — Made for Everyday Life

Our basket bags are lightweight, durable, and easy to carry—making them ideal for travel and highly practical after returning home.

With a thoughtful balance of story and functionality, the Elk Series goes beyond traditional Vietnamese crafts, becoming a long-lasting companion in everyday life.

Why not find a piece that brings a touch of Ho Chi Minh City into your daily routine?
